BEING SOCIAL - An Introduction

Online social networking has exploded onto the scene and integrated itself into our lives. It has redefined the way we communicate entirely, specifically the way we interact online and how we bridge the gap between online communication and offline activity. What advertising did throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and the Internet continued over the past three decades we now experience on a daily basis: a cluttered landscape of too much information and too much choice. Except now every single person with access to a computer or phone is a potential content creator, a potential source of information and of course a potential waste of time. So how can you trust every single source and the information you are reading? Where does the credibility of every content creator lie?

“a wealth of information creates a poverty of attention”  -  Marty Neumeier

The title of one of Clay Shirky’s presentations, It's not information overload, it's filter failure, best describes the world we live in today. Shirky explains that we as human beings have been confronted with more information that we could possibly consume in a lifetime since the invention of the printing press. The cause of our busy 21st century problems is the fact that we lack the proper tools to correctly filter out all the information that is not relevant to us (clutter) and only consume the content we need.

The Social Network button is designed to quickly and easily update the viewer on the latest activity from his friends, latest photo albums, upcoming events and new and interesting groups they can join.

Mygeni solves this exact 21st century problem with a simple realization: a person’s friends are their primary and most credible sources of information, and the brands they trust are their secondary credible source of information. A recent eMarketer stat shows that 62% of US Facebook users follow their friends’ recommendations when it comes to brands. This exposes a larger world trend which points to the fact that in a cluttered, fast and uncertain landscape it is the sources with established credibility and high trust value that will be most used to filter out the irrelevant and false. Think of mygeni as a social network meet content management system (CMS). It has all the features you would expect of a social network: sharing of content with friends, status updates, comments, photo albums, events etc.., plus powerful filtering tools all designed to quickly organize your friends’ information into one easy-to-read stream.
